Billed as Build 25309, the build introduces a lot of new improvements and features from its 25300. Perhaps you’ve heard that Microsoft is planning to move the base of File Explorer to WinAppSDK to help it integrate better with its 365 products, the new tab feature on Notepad, or the Phone Link availability for iPhone users in the last update. Now, it seems like the volume mixer gets its revamping too. The feature has been living in several select insiders, but with this update, it’s finally and officially out and is close to general availability. Soon, you will be able to adjust the volumes of any opened programs through your taskbar without the hassle of going through the Settings app. Albeit hidden, if you’re a Windows Insider, you can still access this feature with a few registry tweaks through the third-party app ViVeTool, courtesy of Windows enthusiast @PhantomOnEarth. Read along to find out how you can enable the new volume mixer on Windows 11

How to enable the new volume mixer on Windows 11

  3. Once downloaded, click Extract all, select the location where you want to extract it by clicking Browse, then hit Extract. In this case, we extract it at C:\Users\WindowsReport\Documents\Tools\ViVeTool-v0.3.2.
  4. Hit 🪟 on your keyboard, then type “cmd” and right-click on Command Prompt -> Run as administrator.
  5. Type in cd + the directory where we extracted ViVeTool. In this case, it’s at C:\Users\WindowsReport\Documents\Tools\ViVeTool-v0.3.2, then hit Enter.
  6. Type the following command then hit Enter.
  7. Reboot the computer. In the meantime, it’s still worth noting that being an insider-only feature that isn’t out for primetime yet, you may be running into some performance problems here and there, so, patience is a virtue.
